LASER CUT FASHION SPRING OF 2017

Laser cut fashion is part of the spring collection of the likes of Gabriele Colangelo. Laser cutting used to be reserved for haute couture designs. But as consumers began lusting for the technique, and the technology was made more readily available to manufacturers, it’s become commonplace to see laser-cut silk and leather in ready-to-wear runway collections. Where the runway goes, affordable fashion typically follows.

Laser-cut” has become a buzzword in the world of industrial design and fashion. Many contemporary objects from computers to clothing have been touched by the process, and its popularity continues to grow the more we discover about it’s potential.

Gabriele Colangelo, a famous Italian designer, known for his collection of precise cultural stance, launched his Spring 2017 collection with Geometry was big on his agenda. According to VogueHe explored a zillion iterations of the rectangular shape with unrestrained gusto. Checks were laser cut and redesigned on wool gabardine. Grids were crossed by strips of two-tone wool and perforated with needle-punching techniques to create a larger check pattern. Colangelo has a cerebral, analytical design approach. His relentless play on experimentation is certainly compelling and shows a rational, intelligent sensibility.
