WE ALWAYS LOVE A BIT OF LASER CUT INSPIRATION!
Virginia-based artist Eric Standley brings a whole new meaning to the term “cutting edge” with his methodical stained glass windows created entirely from laser-cut paper.
Stacking over 100 sheets of coloured paper and using a laser cutter to cut patterns, Standley’s pieces are unique and complex. That’s why he is such a massive laser cut inspiration for us because his work is so beautifully detailed.
The artist says his inspiration comes from the geometry found in Gothic and Islamic architectural ornamentation. He has been known to refers to this style – jokingly of course – “folk math.”
Marvel at the beauty of his paper masterpieces below.

Standley proves just how beautiful laser cutting can be. The level of detail and precision in his work is awe-inspiring! Laser cutting has never looked so delicate and yet so strong.
It goes to show just how versatile laser cutting can be. Standley uses layers upon layers of paper which he then cuts together with these woven spider web design.
His Gothic and old architectural influence is very present in his work which we think is awesome. If you’re going to be vocal about an influence it should show and here it definitely does. That’s why Standley is our laser cut inspiration because we hope one day to replicate his techniques. That is one day when our skills are up to his level of course.
